Did you know there are ways to eliminate your bad breath? Well, it’s true, and they don’t include chewing mint gum. If you have bad breath in Chicago, Illinois, then it’s best to identify the cause and then do everything you can to destroy it. To help you do so, our Chicago Bright Smiles team has provided the following list of the most common causes of bad breath:

-Infected gums: If you are a victim of gum disease, one of the main symptoms is chronic bad breath. To get your gums back into shape, you need to brush often with a soft-bristled toothbrush. You also need to floss at least once a day and visit your dentist, Dr. Sudi Rafieian, regularly.

-Dirty teeth: Your teeth can collect many odorous debris, which can definitely cause bad breath. So, make sure to brush often. If you can’t brush, rinse your mouth with water.

-A foul tongue: Your tongue tends to harbor a high amount of bacteria, which in turn leads to bad breath. So, to freshen your breath, it’s best to brush your tongue after you’ve brushed your teeth.

-Skipping meals: If you skip meals, the saliva you produce while chewing and eating won’t wash away the odorous bacteria in your mouth. So, make sure to eat at least three meals a day and try to chew gum to increase saliva flow.

-Smoking: Smoking can give you cigarette breath and it can also destroy cavity-fighting particles in your saliva. It’s best to avoid this habit altogether.

If one of these causes tends to create your bad breath, then it’s best to use the provided tips and eliminate it as soon as possible.
